Dirty Shirley

I have to admit that I am a pretty basic person.  I could eat the same thing for dinner every night, wear the same thing regularly, and drink the same vodka and sprite each and every day.  I started writing about cocktail recipes and dinner recipes to learn more about what I might like and dislike and really hold myself accountable to try new things.  While many of these drink recipes are not ones that I would make regularly, this simple Dirty Shirley is a spin on my favorite drink.  A little fun to mix things up without going too crazy.

Do you remember the fun Shirley Temple drink that we had often as children, or maybe even as an adult?  The simple mix of lemon-lime soda and grenadine adds a little something special to a regular soda.  Take that special drink and add a kick of vodka to really give it something more.  Add a cherry for a little pizazz and you have a fun, but simple cocktail to enjoy.

To make this cocktail simply fill a glass with ice.  Pour in your vodka, the grenadine and top off with lemon-lime soda.  Gently stir the ingredients and add a cherry on top.  Just a quick note about this cocktail:  grenadine is sweet.  A heavier pour will equal more sweetness, while a lighter pour (just enough to change the color) will be less sweet.  It is better to start with a lighter pour and gradually add to your preference of sweetness.

We hope you enjoy this spiked take on a non-alcoholic drink!  If you try this recipe please tag us and share your thoughts.  That being said, we do ask that you drink responsibly and enjoy the recipes and opinions on our blog.  Cheers!  Simply, Beth
