Margarita

It is time to share our favorite summer cocktail!  We love Margaritas of all kinds from blended to on the rocks and from buckets to canned.  This amazing drink is so versatile and delicious!  Let’s get started with the basic recipe for a classic margarita!

Before branching out to flavors and textures, I always recommend a classic margarita on the rocks.  Salt or sugar rims are up to you, but I would never turn down a salted rim to pair with the tequila.  It just hits home and makes the drink so satisfying.  Margaritas are made up of tequila, triple sec, fresh lime juice and agave nectar.  Simply shake the ingredients with ice to chill, then strain into glass of fresh ice to drink cold.  Make sure to rim the glass with salt before pouring and add a lime wedge for garnish and extra flavor.

Sometimes preferences dictate ingredients.  We like using agave nectar, but many will use simple syrup.  It’s really a matter of preference.  Simple syrup is easy to make and is just sugar and water.  In a pinch I have made simple syrup at home when I didn’t have agave nectar on hand.  Fresh limes are always preferred for cocktails, but you can always keep the bottled stuff on hand so you are always ready to mix a cocktail.

There are also variations on the margarita itself.  Blend the cocktail to make a refreshing icy drink, or add flavors such as mango or strawberry to give a fruity flair.  We love frozen mango margaritas, or classic margs on the rocks.  Many enjoy a spicy margarita also and use jalapenos or chili infused tequila when drinks are mixed.  Share your favorite in the comments.

As you can see, there are many variations of this cocktail, but it all starts with the classic margarita.  We hope you enjoy this drink!  If you try this recipe please tag us and share your thoughts.  That being said, we do ask that you drink responsibly and enjoy the recipes and opinions on our blog.  Cheers!  Simply, Beth
