Fall Bucket List

Are you the kind of person who is constantly saying I should have done that, or maybe next time?!  I used to be that way.  We lived in San Diego and there were so many things we didn’t see or do while we lived there and I regret it to this day.  When we moved on from there I vowed to never let a time go by without making sure to see and do as much as we were able and so far it has worked out!  I make bucket lists for locations, seasons and even weeks to make sure I’m doing as much as possible and seeing all I can!  Fall starts today and is a great time of year to make a bucket list of all the things you want to accomplish during the season!

Each season has its own personality and things to experience.  I am a little sad about living in a perpetual summer and even though I’ll be making the best of it, I hope you all enjoy your fall season a little harder for me!  Spring is a great time for planting gardens, playing in the rain, enjoy the rising temperatures and getting outside more.  Summer is filled with beach days, lake days, camping and just the joy of being outside.  Winter is a time of rest, peace and magic with the snow, quiet and cold.  Sitting around a fire in the house, or enjoying a cup of hot chocolate is everything in the winter.  Fall is upon and could be the best of all the seasons because it has all of the seasons in a way.

Fall is a time when the weather hits just a little differently.  It is warm during the day and chilly at night making it a great time to throw on the hoodie or sweater and.  It is a time when you can transition from shorts to boots and cardigans and break out the beautiful coats.  Gardens are coming to a close with big harvests and pumpkins and mums are taking over.  Bonfires, last camping trips and Halloween help us to transition to the end of the year.  SO many outdoor activities to accomplish before winter brings us inside.

How to make sure you are experiencing it all?  Make a bucket list and post it where you can see it.  Bucket lists can inspire us to make the most of seasonal activities, but if we don’t keep it front and center it can be easily forgotten.  Something as simple as a list on the fridge, or a poster on the wall  is a great way to think about the things you have crossed off the list and look forward to the activities that are still to come!  I always kept a dry erase board hung up so we all saw what was still coming our way for activities.  Grab your family and/or friends and get to planning so that you make the most of the season.

How do you start?  Well starting is always the hardest part, but it is best just to go for it.  I like to brainstorm and do a quick google search to get started.  I look for events in the area, like festivals, fairs and events held by local organizations.  I google fun activities near me and tourist attractions.  I then list everything that sounds interesting and the date they happen if they are on a certain day.

A simple brainstorm is another great way to get ideas on paper! Think about the season and what is popular during that time.  Pumpkin patches, apple picking, baking seasonal treats.  These are all great starts to a fall bucket list.  I would also think about the area in which you live.  I lived in a rural farming area before moving to Hawaii so my activities here are much different than they would have been there.  Instead of apple picking, I will be thinking about visiting local farms for their version of a fall fest.  Remember the environment when creating your list.

Not every bucket list has to do exactly with the season either.  Want to learn a new skill?  Add it to the list.  What to take a trip further away?  Also a great place to park that goal.  Just remember for these types of entries to not overload yourself.  It isn’t also feasible to learn a new language in 3 months, or travel to Europe because you have been wanting to.  Be realistic and think about the time in which you’d like to complete your bucket list.  That being said, it isn’t bad to stretch your comfort zone and get out to do things you normally wouldn’t do.  You can also add self-care items to your list.  Making sure to include sitting quietly by a fire is a great entry for a bucket list and is a great way to relax and enjoy.
Now that you have your ideas brainstormed, it is time to organize them.  I like using location and time as a way to identify different groups.  Location is big because if you have only a couple of hours for an item on your list, but it is over an hour away, chances are you won’t be able to complete the bucket list entry.  Also if you are looking to head to a fall festival this weekend, but didn’t realize it was the weekend before, you miss out.  Split up your categories and make sure to label dates on any that are held on specific days.

Alright it is time to get out there and make your own list!  I’m excited to do a seasonal list this year to do with Gracen and get our little family out of the house and see some sights.  I have a list of places to eat and see while we live in Hawaii, but I want to be more specific and intentional with the time Gracie and I get out of the house and have some fun experiences.  Take a photo of yours and share in the comments to help inspire others when you complete yours!  Need a little help?  Check out my fall brainstorming guide and blank bucket list in our Etsy page Tin Box Creates!  As always, thank you for reading and joining us on this journey.  SImply, Beth
