Simple Intentions for Working Moms in the New year

Simple Intentions for Working Moms in the New Year

As working moms, a new year can feel less like a fresh start and more like another full plate. I never realized how difficult time management was until Gracen appeared on the scene. The first year was easy, but the more she grows the more my time gets away from me.

Between careers, businesses, households, kids, and the constant mental load, setting big resolutions can feel unrealistic—or even discouraging.

This year, instead of chasing perfection, consider creating simple intentions that support you in the life you’re already living.

Why Resolutions Don’t Always Work for Working Moms

Traditional resolutions often assume unlimited time, energy, and focus—things working moms rarely have in abundance.

Simple intentions meet you where you are. They aren’t about doing more; they’re about being more intentional with what already fills your days.

Intentions allow room for:

  • Sick days and late nights
  • Busy seasons at work
  • School & activity schedules and family needs
  • Grace when things don’t go as planned

What Are Simple Intentions?

An intention is a guiding thought or feeling—not a rule. I am someone who quits a workout program when I miss too much time between workouts. This year I plan to give myself a little more grace and just make sure to keep being active whether it is part of the program or not.

Instead of:
“I will never miss a workout.”

Try:
“I will move my body when I can and honor rest when I need it.”

Instead of focusing on outcomes, intentions focus on how you want to feel as you move through your days.

How to Create Intentions That Fit a Working Mom’s Life

Start by asking yourself:

  • How do I want to feel this year—at work and at home?
  • What feels heavy right now?
  • What would make my days feel just a little lighter?

Choose one or two intentions that feel supportive—not demanding.

Simple Intention Ideas for Working Moms

  • Be present, even when time is short
  • Let “good enough” be enough
  • Protect my energy as much as my time
  • Rest without guilt
  • Ask for help when I need it
  • Celebrate progress, not perfection
  • Create small moments just for me

These aren’t goals to conquer—they’re reminders to return to when life gets loud.

How to Use Your Intentions in Everyday Life

Write them down. Put them on your phone background, planner, or bathroom mirror. When a day feels overwhelming, pause and ask:

Does this align with my intention?

If the answer is no, it’s okay to adjust, say no, or slow down.

A Reminder for the Year Ahead

You don’t need to become a different version of yourself this year.
You don’t need to do more to be doing enough.

Simple intentions give working moms permission to move forward with clarity, compassion, and balance—without the pressure of perfection.

Here’s to a year of showing up as you are, honoring your limits, and creating a life that feels a little more intentional and a lot more kind.
