Take a Tech Break Part 2

We took some time last week to discuss some ways to step away and take a break from technology. We discussed great times to put down your phones, power down computers and turn off the television. It is so important to slow down and take a step away from technology every now and then. But what do you do when you are offline? Let’s take a look at some ideas.

Go Outside

This is the simplist form of entertainment that does not need to be plugged in. We are avid campers, love going fishing or boating, enjoy hikes and even don’t mind doing yard chores. You could take a walk, enjoy a fire outside, or even just sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. It does not cost a dime to head outside and the stimulation will fuel your creativity and mental health.

Make a meal or bake a dessert

We cook most of our meals from scratch and love working on recipes. You can step away from your computer and into your kitchen to make a meal for your family, a yummy dessert or even learn a new technique. Jorge has been enjoying learning to make sushi, and I hope to start working on sourdough bread making soon. Have you ever tried to make your own pasta? It is simple and fun, but even more rewarding when eating something you made from scratch. Have you made jelly or jam before? Another easy, yet extremly rewarding experience. It will bring continuous enjoyment as you spoon out your strawberry jelly onto a bagel or toast, or even spoon it over ice cream.

Try something new

Finding yourself at a loss for what toi do? Try something you have always wanted to do, or learn a new skill. Teach yourself how to play piano or the guitar. Outline the book you have been wanting to write, or even head to the local gym and pick up a racket and learn to play tennis. Not sure what you may want to do? Head to the library and look at their reference books. They have a whole section of how-to books and there is sure to be something there that will peak your interest.

Spend some quality time

Our last item on the list is to just spend some quality time with family, friends or even yourself. Play a board game, read a book, or just spend some time with people you care about. Some of my favorite times are after playing a board game with my husband, or spending a couple of hours at my family’s home and catching up. Phones are great for chats or texts, but the time you have together is what you will take with you for a long time to come.

We hope this has inspired you to put down the tech for a bit and spend some quality time. Let us know in the comments how you enjoy your time offline. As always, thank you for reading and joining us on this journey. Simply, Beth
