Steak Marinade for Valentine’s Day Dinner

Steak is one of the simplest, yet decadent dinners to eat.  We usually just use salt, pepper and garlic powder on our steaks, but sometimes a little extra flavor and prep can make even the simplest cut of steak taste like a five star dinner.  This marinade is simple, helps you to prep your meal ahead of time and tastes great! Use this marinade to elevate your Valentine’s Day steak dinner into a romantic dining experience.

This simple list of ingredients are all you need for this great steak marinade:

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary or thyme

To make this marinade simply whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, garlic, Dijon mustard, honey, and black pepper.  Add the options rosemary or thyme for extra flavor.  Place your steak (ribeye, filet mignon, or your favorite cut) in a shallow dish or resealable bag. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it’s fully coated.  Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, but overnight is ideal for maximum flavor.

When you are ready to cook, remove the steak from the fridge 30 minutes before cooking to allow it to come to room temperature.  Grill, broil, or pan-sear the steak to your preferred doneness. We prefer medium rare to rare so I cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side.  The thicker the steak, the longer it will take to cook.

Some great side dishes to pair with your steak would be garlic mashed potatoes, roasted asparagus, or a fresh arugula salad. Don’t forget about dessert too!  It is Valentine’s Day so a little dessert will be appreciated.
