Those of us who work in retail already know this, but two months out of the year are a bit slower than most and they both start with the letter J. At Tin Box January and July are the two slowest months for us in sales and we take full advantage of the slowdown.
January is a welcome break after a hectic holiday season. The holiday season starts in September and runs all the way through Christmas Eve. It is by far the busiest time of year for us, for obvious reasons, and drives our business for the entire year. We are at events every weekend and making personalized items along with restocking through the week. January is a welcome slow down after the chaos of this time and a chance to look back at all we accomplished. Each year is better than the last.
July is the other slow month for us at Tin Box. School is out and many are on vacations. It is a great month for us as well, filled with camping trips and a real chance to recharge before the hectic nature of the holidays. We will be almost every weekend this month and I look forward to the opportunity to get that pile of books I’ve meaning to read down a bit. The weeks are equally rewarding as we work on stocking inventory for the holidays and prepping for our back to school and fall shows. Mornings are spent in the Tin Box office, while afternoons are spent working on projects, gardening and other items I haven’t had time to focus on.
The rest is always needed as life is constantly moving at warp speed. While the sales figures are not my favorite of the year, I know enough to appreciate the slowness and really take advantage of the time we have to slow down.
As always, thank you all for reading and joining us on this journey. We wish you an amazing July and hope it is filled with rest, laughter and joy.
Simply, Beth
