Homemade Grenadine

My friends and I get together once a month and enjoy a day of adventure. Sometimes that means we head to the Philadelphia suburbs and see museums and botanical gardens, sometimes we go to a sporting event and sometimes we take a few days and really explore a town. This past year we did just that in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It was a great weekend filled with history, sight seeing and amazing food and drinks. We stayed at the Lodges at Gettysburg in a small cabin that was just perfect and loved meeting the employees as well. We had dinner in the bar at the Lodge one night and enjoyed seeing the wedding guests from the ballroom walking around, but really enjoyed meeting Kolten. Our bartender was great company, provided perfect service and shared the recipe for this homemade grenadine that really upped the taste of my Dirty Shirley!

When Kolten let us know that they used Orange Blossom Water in their recipe, I get super excited. Jorge and I visited Harper’s Ferry last year and I picked up a bottle of this exact ingredient. It came in a beautiful round bottle and I just knew that I would find a use for it! Thankfully Kolten shared the recipe and I’m so excited to share it with you all!

For this great recipe start with one part pomegranate juice and two parts sugar. (I used 1 cup of juice and 2 cups of sugar) Mix these two ingredients over medium to medium-high heat until the sugar is dissolved. Turn off the heat and add in one tablespoon of pomegranate molasses (for every one part pomegranate juice) and eight drops of orange blossom water (for every one part pomegranate juice). Allow this liquid to cool and add to a glass container. Place in fridge to chill until you are ready to use.

We suggest using this later this week for our Thirsty Thursday post about the Dirty Shirley cocktail. If you try this recipe be sure to let us know in the comments, or tag us on socials. As always, thank you for reading and joining us on this journey.
