Infused Water

Water is the most important thing that we put into our bodies. Our bodies are made up of up to sixty percent water. More so, if you exercise regularly because muscles have increased amount of water. Water helps your body function properly, helps your joints stay lubricated, helps your body pass waste and overall just keeps you going in the most healthy way. Water is a vital source of life and sustains it.

There is no easy answer about how much is necessary, because it varies per person. Eight glasses of water a day is a great goal to hit every day, but if you exercise regularly it should be higher. If you weigh less it may be less. It’s hard to say what is right for you because it is most likely different than what is right for me. The calculation that works best for me is drinking half my weight in ounces. If you weigh 100 pounds, drink at least 50 ounces of water. 200 pounds, drink 100 ounces of water. Days that I don’t make my water intake goal I feel the dryness in my lips and thirst levels. When I am drinking my goal I feel less hungry, more energetic and in overall better spirits. I don’t think it is a coincidence.

Infused water is a great to make water more appealing. I usually do a great job of hitting my goal, but some days the water just doesn’t hit the spot, or I’m somewhere where I don’t like the taste. When I’m teaching the water in the schools just doesn’t do it for me to refill my water bottle. When I teach, I will usually add a mason jar of infused water to my lunch bag to bring along to drink when my 32 oz bottle is empty. It is enough to get me through the work day and is a nice treat in the afternoon.

How to infuse water? Super easy. Pick your fruits, herbs and/or veggies that you want to add. Cut them up and add them to a mason jar or pitcher. Fill with water and then let sit for at least 30 minutes to an hour.

Note: I like to prep infused water at night and enjoy it the next day.

Here are some geat ingredients that we enjoy in our water:

  • Cucumber
    • Cucumbers help to aid digestion, are packed with antioxidants, rejuvenate skin and are anti-inflammatory.
  • Kiwi
    • Kiwi can help to aid digestion, aid in weight loss and relive fatigue.
  • Lemons & Limes
    • Citrus is a great add to water. It can help aid in digestion, boost your immune system, aid in weight loss, rejuvinate the skin and so much more.
  • Herbs
    • Herbs like mint and basil are great adds to your infused water.
    • They are great for relieving fatigure and being anti-inflammatory. Mint aid digestion and rejuvinates the skin, while basil is full of antioxidants.
  • Fruits
    • I like to add fruits like strawberries and watermelon on occassion. They really brighten up the water and also give LOTS of health benefits.
