I have the hardest time sticking to a reading routine between work, a toddler and just life. I love reading, but always put it on the back burner when I have a long list of things to do each day. I generally get all of my reading done at the beach, but I’m going to really try to get a little reading done each day for the remainder of the year. Start your own reading list and join me as I get lost in fiction, learn from business books and improve my mind with personal development. I’m hoping this reading list will help me to stay motivated and keep reading and helps you too!

Why make a reading list? I make a list so that I can see my goal. The constant reminder that I see each day keeps me motivated towards my goals, and on track to read more. It is why I keep all of my lists and written goals honestly. When it is staring me in the face on a dry erase board, on my calendar, or a big note in my office I usually work a little harder to do it so that I can cross it off the list. When it comes to reading it always make it easier to not only choose the next book, but to get started on it. Making a list is a great way to view your reading wish list and books so you can plan ahead, or stay on track.
I definitely don’t recommend putting thirty books on your reading list to start. It’s important to start a goal, but start small and work from there. August is right around the corner, so I’m going to shoot for five books in August. I’m going to choose three fiction books, one business book and one personal development books. You can pick books from all different categories and genres, but I’ve been on a kick trying to get through my favorite author’s book lists, so I’m going to stick to that goal. Note: Some of you may remember me printing those lists last year with a goal of finishing in 2024. I did not come close to finishing, but I did make a good dent. Maybe 2026 will be the year for me? Do they have to be physical books? Absolutely not! Choose some audiobooks or ebooks to listen to and read. Kindle Unlimited is a great way to read more and explore new authors and I love Audible on Amazon. When I was in the car for craft show trips, I definitely listened to my fair share of audio books in the truck. Need a little motivation? Ask some friends to join you in a book club. You can select a book together, or take turns, and get together each month to discuss the book. It is a great way to stay on track with your goals and a fun reason to get together with friends.

Wondering where to find these books? Curious about how much it will cost you? That is completely understandable, and I’m here to tell you that it can be as inexpensive or pricey as you prefer. I love reading physical books. There is just something about turning the page and placing a bookmark that really gets me in the mood to read. That being said, physical books are not super expensive, but when you read a lot it can really add up. The library is where I get almost all of my books and that does not cost a dime. Many books are gifted to me from others (thanks Mom!) and I do buy a few each year to add to my collection of my favorite authors and subject areas. Audible and Kindle Unlimited have a monthly fee, but it is low if you use it. I don’t currently have my Audible account active because I don’t drive often anymore, but I lived on it when I was commuting for work and traveling for craft shows. Looking for suggestions on what to read? Goodreads is a great app where readers share their reviews and what they are reading. If you are like me, your friends are usually eager to share what they are reading and will often go into detail about which author is their favorite and why. My book pile is very big right now, but on the rare occasion that it is dwindling, I will post a recommendation request on social meeting and gets LOTS of new ideas there.

Need a little motivation or focus for your upcoming reading list? Pick a theme! You can choose all books that became movies or television shows or classics that you have always wanted to read. You could choose travel-inspired novels or go with memoirs and biographies. There are so many different subject areas out there that it can be overwhelming. Choose a theme, an author or subject matter to read about and start there. You are sure to find your way and what you are interested in reading next!
